Participants of this tour, will visit the ancient capital of Macedonia, Aegae, nowadays known as Vergina, where they will have the chance to see the monumental palace, lavishly decorated with mosaics and painted stuccoes, and the burial ground with more than 300 tumuli, some of which date from the 11th century B.C. More importantly Vergina hosts the Royal Tomb of King Philip II of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great that was discovered by archaeologist Manolis Andronikos in 1977. The excursion includes wine tasting and lunch at a local winery.
Northern Greece is one of the most important wine producing areas of the country with high quality production and talented winemakers.

Dion @ Mountain Olympus: the sacred city in the foothills of the mountain of Gods & Muses

Dion, the sacred city of the Macedonians, lies on the foothill of Mount Olympus, where a sanctuary founded in the 5th century BC, is dedicated to the father of Gods, Zeus. This sacred place was for the Macedonians, everything that Zeus’ sanctuary in ancient Olympia was for the rest of the Greeks. Inside the walls, one can see the remains of the rich houses, the baths, the Odeon and a Christian basilica. Outside the walls, you will have the opportunity to see exquisite sanctuaries and the earliest existing theatre in Macedonia. A visit to the Archaeological Museum of Dion which hosts important finds from Dion is also included.

Mount Olympus
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece, residence of the twelve ancient gods, and the second highest mountain in the Balkans. It is located in the Olympus Range on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia. Elevation 2.918 m, first ascent August 2, 1913, prominence 2.355 m
In 1981 UNESCO declared “Olympus a Biosphere Reserve”. The European Community has included Olympus in the list of “The Most Important Bird areas of the European Community”.

Experience a trip to the northwest edge of Greece, enjoy the views of a beautiful landscape and discover the elements of Byzantine and Balkan culture by mirrored in the lake waters of Kastoria & Prespes. Three of the most picturesque locations in Northern Greece are the main attractions of this tour. Starting from the lake city of Kastoria where the participants will visit Limneon, a Neolithic lake settlement, the byzantine monastery of Mavriotissa and the byzantine church of Agioi Anargiroi. A walk around Doltso and Apozari, the old neighborhoods of Kastoria will conclude the first part of the excursion. On the second day, the tour will lead its way to the lakes of Prespa a breathtaking beauty spot, rich in both wildlife and history, and the island of Agios Germanos, where you will have the chance to visit the Basilica of Agios Achilios (dating back to the 10th century AD). After lunch in a local restaurant and on the way to Thessaloniki, the final destination, the excursion will pass by Nimfeo, a traditional stone house village where visitors can enjoy nature, local cuisine and visit the Environmental Centre of Arcturos. Arrive in Thessaloniki in late afternoon, spend the night and the next morning get a chance to visit Multicultural Thessaloniki
